Dr. Karen Flannery (Founder, Medical Director)

As the Founder and Medical Director of PB Recovery MD, Dr. Flannery has the privilege of treating patients, guiding families, and serving as a clinical resource for an integrated recovery team. She is dedicated to offering innovative, evidence-based care through collaborative discussions with her team of esteemed professionals.

Dr. Flannery earned her medical degree from Rush University in Chicago and completed her Internal Medicine training at the University of South Florida in 2001. She is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. With over two decades of experience in hospital medicine, general internal medicine, and addiction medicine in West Palm Beach, Florida, she has also served as Chief of Staff at Good Samaritan Medical Center and is a member of the medical staff at Jupiter Medical Center.

Committed to continuous learning, Dr. Flannery has completed continuing education courses from Harvard Medical School in Psychopharmacology and Mind-Body Medicine, and holds a certification in Botanical Medicine from Cornell University. Her ongoing studies include Integrative Approaches to Mental Health Care, Effective Goal Setting for Health Behavior Change, and Caregiver Burnout. She is a lifelong learner, always grateful for the opportunity to expand her knowledge base and skill set in order to best care for patients.

As a general internist with a focus in behavioral healthcare, Dr. Flannery excels in treating patients with complex medical conditions and co-occurring neuropsychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and cognitive impairment. She addresses underlying issues driving addictive behaviors and assembles interdisciplinary teams to provide effective treatment.

Dr. Flannery is recognized for her compassion, empathy, and collaborative approach. She values humility and open-mindedness in her practice. She champions the understanding of addiction as a chronic medical condition and actively works to reduce stigma through speaking engagements in the medical community.

Driven by a passion for elevating addiction treatment standards, Dr. Flannery’s work at (the) Palm Beach Wellness Institute focuses on improving patient outcomes and promoting overall wellbeing.

Meet our dedicated Executive Director, Samantha. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Broward College and is also a trained Certified Recovery Coach. She has been an integral part of Palm Beach Wellness Institute since its inception, providing administrative management and support for patients and providers. With her experience in both human resources and recovery coaching, Samantha is well-equipped to provide clients with the support and guidance they need to achieve their wellness goals. She takes pride in her work and is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those she serves. Whether working behind the scenes or engaging directly with clients, Samantha is an essential part of our team at Palm Beach Wellness Institute. We are fortunate to have her on board and are confident that her expertise and dedication will continue to make a meaningful impact on our clients’ lives.

Dana is a professional Family Coach and interventionist. Her passion is helping families find solutions and coordinating the care necessary to get their lives back after suffering from substance use disorder within the family. Through her workbook, “Healing Together” she brings skills, hope, healing, and inspiration to families and/or individuals by identifying healthy goals and establishing new routines and behaviors to achieve positive change within the family dynamics. In working with Dana, you can expect to learn how to communicate effectively with your loved ones, set realistic expectations and boundaries, and elicit constructive conversation for positive relationships. She will guide you to normalize the family’s experience, access each member’s strengths, and help the family develop skills and routines to problem solve challenging situations. She is responsive to the unique needs of each family member. Dana is a writer for Psychology Today. She is the co-author of “Addiction Rescue; The No-BS Guide to Recovery” and is a nationally known advocate for families struggling with substance use disorder.

Angie is a professional Energy Healer and Spiritual Coach. She has been in the healing arts for over 20 years. Angie is a registered member of the Yoga Alliance as well as certified in Yin yoga, chair yoga and sound healing. She believes the connection to one’s true self dwells at the heart of the healing process. Often this connection can become blocked at an energetic level and thus difficult to access solely through dialogue-based treatment modalities. As an Energy Healer, Angie harnesses universal life force energy to remove blockages caused by traumas stored in the body, thereby restoring one’s natural energetic equilibrium. Her sessions support reconnection to one’s true self realigning the flow of their life in new ways.

Bianca is a certified Clinical, Transpersonal, and Interpersonal Hypnotherapist from the Interpersonal Institute of Hypnotherapy in Tampa. She is also an ACE certified personal trainer with multiple group exercise certifications, including Yoga. Bianca utilizes breathwork to help get to emotions that have been suppressed. Suppressed emotions can lead to a myriad of different symptoms. The breathwork process helps to release negative emotions and reach a very peaceful state. There are many ways to utilize breathwork, from using this method for a healthy emotional release, including processing work, or using it as an adjunct in a regular hypnosis session. Bianca likes to describe hypnosis as a wonderful tool to help people achieve their goals. It is a gentle process to break away from old habits that are no longer useful, to break away from negative self-talk, and step into more confidence and self-love. Bianca will help you to create the transformation in your life that you are looking for, one step at a time.

Brian is a professional Recovery Coach, who brings over thirty-five years of personal experience in the recovery community as well as a successful career in Behavioral Health. Brian’s top priority is to help as many people as possible find the appropriate help they need to achieve their best life possible. Brian is the success story of a 19-year-old alcoholic/addict who has lived a full life. He holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business with a minor in International Relations from UMass.

Dr. Elizabeth Jenkins is a professional Clinical Health Psychologist. Over the past 25 years, she has enjoyed the privilege of supporting many individuals in their search for meaning, health, and positive connection. As a health psychologist, Dr. Jenkins works collaboratively with clients to maximize their health and well-being, build their resilience at home and in the workplace, motivate health behavior change, find hope and happiness, and achieve values-driven living. She helps people create individual roadmaps for living a healthy and happy life. For some, their health and well-being roadmap emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention. For others, it focuses on surviving and thriving despite an existing illness. Specific areas of focus include chronic disease self-management and health behavior change, such as recovering from substance use disorders, improving sleep, increasing physical activity, and healthy eating. Dr. Jenkins’ therapy approach is integrative, incorporating aspects of acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, interpersonal psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and cognitive behavior therapy.

Dr. Jenkins holds a joint appointment at the University of South Florida (USF) as Courtesy Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and Courtesy Assistant Professor of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Miami with a specialization in behavioral medicine, and she completed her doctoral internship and has practiced clinically in Florida for over 20 years. Dr. Jenkins is co-author of the books MI-Lead: A Leader’s Guide for Difficult Conversations, Motivational Interviewing for Leadership: MI-Lead, and The Listening Space: A Guide to Strengthening Parent-Child Relationships with Motivational Parenting, and she provides integrative psychotherapy, education, and ongoing coaching to leadership, healthcare professionals, professional athletes, and other individuals who are working to enhance their success interpersonally and in the workplace. 

Dr. Jenkins has been a clinician for the NFL Program for Substances of Abuse since 2010, and, since 2006, she has been a facilitator for continuing education workshops providing training and follow-up coaching in interpersonal skills building, anger management, conflict resolution, and professional health for physicians and other health care providers through USF and the University of Florida. In addition, Dr. Jenkins is a faculty instructor at Conflict Resolution Training, Inc., a professional development, and continuing education company.

Connie is a professional Qigong Instructor. She has been practicing and teaching Qigong for over 25 years. She studied with a fifth generation Medical Qigong Master and numerous other Masters/teachers. Connie enjoys blending her own life journey experiences into her practice and sharing in classes to help others balance and enhance their energy (Physical, Emotional, Spiritual). Connie received her Bachelor of Science in Organic Chemistry from Temple University, and following her first career in electrical and systems engineering, she received a diploma of Acupuncture from the Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine and is NCCAOM certified. She excels at using slow-flowing movements, deep rhythmic breathing, and a calm meditative state of mind to optimize energy to improve your health and wellbeing.

These practices begin with generating neuromuscular pathways that retrain movement and postural compensations. Dennis is a seasoned Sober Coach with a broad base of knowledge and skills. His background includes degrees in Psychology and a Masters Special Education as well as a challenging but inspiring personal history. Dennis has a singular ability to earn trust and respect quickly, often with people who have life experiences that have made them reluctant to trust others. Dennis has experience in residential settings, public school systems, 12 step programs and as a trainer of professional and amateur athletes. He is a former Kickboxing World Champion and incorporates his fighter mindset into his work with his clients. He focuses on personal accountability and goal setting to help his clients attain what they feel is a productive and successful life. Dennis can think outside of the box and meet the client where they are in their recovery.

Through active listening, Elizabeth creates a safe and supportive space, assisting clients in developing relapse prevention strategies, building a variety of coping mechanisms, and cultivating a foundation of healthy habits. This includes navigating through triggers, developing a strong sober support network, and rebuilding interpersonal relationships.

Erick Berman is a professional Psychotherapist. His extensive training and expertise gave him the knowledge to integrate traditional psychotherapeutic treatments with spiritually integrated modalities that facilitate growth, healing, and wellness. He received his master’s degree in social work from Barry University, and he has trained with world renowned therapists and has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Bio- and Neurofeedback, Brain Plasticity Modalities, and Addiction and Trauma Therapy. Erick is dedicated to helping our clients in their journey toward inner peace, connection, happiness, and long-term wellness. He collaborates with his clients to integrate different therapeutic approaches based on one’s situation, feelings, wants, and needs. Erick’s client-centered approach focuses on helping clients maximize their potential and stresses the importance of self-exploration, free will, and self-actualization. Gus is a professional Mindfulness Teacher, certified to teach MBSR by the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness and trained at the University of Miami’s Neuroscience of Mindfulness Lab.  He is a graduate of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and he practiced Neurology and Sleep Medicine in South Florida for 25 years. He has practiced mindfulness since 1998 and has taught mindfulness programs since 2009.  He offers mindfulness and compassion-based practices, tools, and strategies on a 1-on-1 basis tailored to your needs for reducing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, insomnia, and pain and improving cognitive skills. With a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the impact of stress on health and well-being, he draws on years of experience in the field of neurology and sleep medicine to provide effective and evidence-based mindfulness practices. Gus brings a unique perspective and level of empathy to his work. Heidi is a trained professional recovery coach, companion, and event interventionist with over twenty-three years of continuous long-term recovery. She is available for safe transportation home after discharge from detox and/or treatment, locally or nationwide. She offers each individual a personalized experience with one goal in mind: to support each patient through a transitional phase in their unique recovery journey. Furthermore, Heidi provides support for family members as well. Interventions are designed to compassionately motivate an individual to see the need for change and accept help.

James Hanlon is certified in Addictionology and has numerous degrees and many letters after his name designating his formal education – yet what matters most is the inner education and specific skillset he acquired from his own battles with substance abuse and behavioral addictions earlier in life. Now with 35 years of sobriety he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table with one goal: to be a catalyst and inspiration for clients to cultivate their own specific and unique recovery from addiction. Achieving and maintaining quality recovery through mental emotional spiritual and physical sobriety can one be one of the bigger accomplishments in one’s life! Especially in the modern world we live in today with so many stresses, distractions, temptations, and possibilities for excessive behavior. Jenna is a licensed psychotherapist who is an expert in treating substance use disorders, mood disorders, and trauma resolution. She received her BSW and MSW from Florida Atlantic University and has worked for more than a decade in residential addiction and mental health treatment programs. Jenna has extensive leadership experience, having worked for 8 years in clinical leadership. She has been the clinical supervisor of a women-only dual diagnosis treatment program, and most recently the clinical director of an executive addiction and mental health treatment program. Due to this experience, she is skilled in working with clients who have complex medical and mental health concerns. Jenna is trained in EMDR therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is also trained in Exposure and Response Prevention, the gold standard in treatment for OCD.  Jenna is passionate about providing personalized therapy that meets the goals of her clients. She uses evidence-based treatment modalities with a client-centered and concierge approach to care. She understands that traditional in-office therapy does not always meet the needs of every client and is comfortable with in-home and out-of-office care.  Jenna believes that to truly heal, you must explore beyond your surface symptoms and heal the wounds beneath.

Jennifer is a professional physical therapist with over 30 years of experience. She received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professions and is constantly expanding her education.  She has undergone intensive coursework, including vestibular rehabilitation, as well as certification in comprehensive lymphedema treatment.  She has assisted individuals of all ages and abilities to achieve their optimal level of function, strength, and balance while learning to manage their pain. Jennifer recently earned her Peak Pilates certification which perfectly complements her skills with progressing precise movement patterns to improve posture, breathing capacity, and core stability in a safe manner.  She delights in developing a comprehensive treatment plan and maintenance program so that individuals can enjoy renewed confidence in their bodies and improved independence in navigating their world.  As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT), Jennifer has over 20 years of expertise in problem-solving a wide variety of swelling and edema issues.  Chronic swelling of any body part is often ignored by medical professionals, and it can be very frustrating for people to find proper and effective treatment.  Jennifer’s advanced training in the management of post plastic surgery procedures significantly decreases pain and rapidly improves healing by gently using the body’s lymphatic system to help heal itself.  Jennifer has been a clinician in various settings from intensive rehabilitation to home health and most notably, outpatient physical therapy. This complements her strong clinical skills in comprehensive cancer issues, orthopedic conditions, vestibular/balance disorders, post-operative athletic injuries, amputee and prosthetic patients, and strength and reconditioning. Jennifer is a sought-after speaker and an international consultant in the development of joint replacement and post-op rehab programs.

Larisa is a professional Massage Therapist with over 21 years of experience. She is a board-certified therapist with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and has received education and training from accredited programs. Larisa has had the privilege of working with a diverse clientele, including VIPs, athletes, executives, seniors, new moms, children, and individuals with special needs. She believes that each client is important and therefore deserves extraordinary wellness experience. She takes pride in her attention to detail, and her strong client focus, as well as her intuitive and empathetic nature, allows her to take special interest in each of her client’s needs. Her goal is to relax you and address any deeper musculature issues, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and renewed in body and spirit.

Larisa’s massage services range from soothing light touch for those recovering from trauma or severe injury and Swedish massage for relaxation, to deep tissue and sports massage. She may also apply a variety of other modalities as appropriate, including neuromuscular, myofascial trigger point therapy, ART (Active Release Technique), CRT (Cranial Release Technique), acupressure, cupping, and reflexology. She also incorporates aromatherapy for those who appreciate the added olfactory experience as well as its health benefits on anxiety, depression and chronic pain.

Dr. Lauren is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) with 15 years of experience, primarily in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine clinical settings. Throughout her years of practice, she has consistently felt that a crucial element in the healing process was missing. While soft tissues may heal, patients often exhibit lingering patterns of fear and pain avoidance, chronic pain, fatigue, and inflammation. Dr. Lauren believes that no single body system functions or heals in isolation, and her treatment model is designed to blend multi-system modalities and approaches to create a comprehensive healing experience.

Her approach involves reintegration and regulation of the nervous system, the primary controller of inflammation and overall healing, stimulation of the lymphatic system to promote cellular detoxification and regeneration, and the use of detailed hands-on bodywork and mobility retraining to facilitate complete recovery. Dr. Lauren’s ultimate goal is to help individuals achieve a fully regulated and resilient nervous system, enabling them to maintain higher mental and physical states, rewire the mind-body connection, and feel empowered in their healing journey. Outside of her practice, Dr. Lauren is deeply committed to spending time with her two children, friends, and family. Lexie is a professional recovery coach and sober companion, with 36 years of experience in the recovery community and over 14 years in the behavioral health field. 

Additionally, she co-founded the largest luxury sober living community in Los Angeles and has also owned and operated an outpatient center. Lexie takes pride in her ability to connect with individuals on a profound level, providing them with unwavering support and service. 

She is especially passionate about helping others realize their dreams by discovering their authentic selves. As a singer-songwriter with extensive experience in the entertainment industry, including winning a VH1 Song of the Year Award, Lexie has encountered the pressures, culture, and environment that accompany this career path. 

Her personal journey adds a unique perspective to her work, and she intimately understands the challenges of addiction within the spotlight of performance and the journey of transitioning from darkness to sobriety. Lexie takes a holistic and integrative approach to wellness, emphasizing nutrition, mindfulness, breath-work, and overall mind-body-spirit connection.

Megan is a professional registered dietitian. She holds her Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from Bastyr University in Seattle, WA, one of the country’s leading schools for integrative medicine. Megan’s nutrition sessions artfully blend eastern and western healing modalities to help clients break free from disordered eating and reconnect with the body’s innate wisdom. She creates personalized programs designed for each client to reprogram food beliefs, optimize digestive function, balance hormones and experience true food freedom. She is an expert in the use of food and nutrition to manage disease and promote optimal health. Megan believes that every person deserves to transform their relationship with food into a beautiful expression of self-care.

Nicole is a professional Acupuncture Physician. She received her Master of Acupuncture degree from The Academy for Five-Element Acupuncture in Hallandale, Florida where she has served as a faculty member and clinical supervisor.  Certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), Nicole is a member of the Florida State Oriental Medicine Association (FSOMA) and holds a current acupuncture license (L.Ac.) in the state of Florida.  Laser acupuncture is effective for nicotine craving. A special treatment using acupuncture points suppresses the urge for nicotine, whether it is through smoking or vaping. One to three treatments are recommended.  Nicole is passionate about her work and strives to provide personalized care that addresses everyone’s unique needs. She is a dedicated and compassionate acupuncture physician who believes in the power of Five Element Acupuncture to heal the body, mind, and spirit. Nicole understands that our bodies house a network of channels through which life-force energy flows, and that when these pathways become blocked or obstructed, it can lead to pain and disease. With years of experience in this field, she has helped many individuals unblock these channels and tap into their innate wisdom to heal from within.

Patti is a professional Fitness Trainer. She has 25 years of experience and is certified and trained in Spinning, Kickboxing, Pilates Mat, Barre, Strength, and Conditioning as well as Functional Training, Corrective & Restorative Exercise. Patti has developed a lifetime of passion, knowledge, and experience within the fitness industry. With this vast knowledge, Patti has been able to help her clients realize their true strengths, making a positive impact on their health, wellness, and fitness. Her unbreaking commitment to her clients makes her one of the most loved personal trainers in the area. Her certifications include Master Trainer for Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, American Council of Exercise, Resist-A-Ball, American College of Sports Medicine, The National Strength and Conditioning Association, The International Sports and Conditioning Association, Fitness Institute International, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and The Institute for Human Performance.

Suzanne graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University, Boston. With over 30 years of experience, she has worked in an extensive range of professional settings, including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and orthopedics, home care, occupational health, prosthetics, education and clinical management. Having interned and worked at the renowned Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in California and Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital in Massachusetts respectively, she was fortunate enough to have received prestigious training. She also taught Electrotherapy and assisted in the practical skills training and testing of students as an Adjunct Instructor in the Physical Therapy Assistant Program at Indian River State College. She has considerable experience in return-to-work programs and most recently established and oversaw a complete occupational health program for a local Aldi grocery store warehouse.  Suzanne considers herself an avid fitness enthusiast exposing herself to many types of exercise and exercise programs. She was a Jazzercise franchise owner teaching as a dance aerobics instructor for over 7 years. She often includes this invaluable knowledge and experience of exercise into her treatment plans. She is currently co-owner of Fenton Prosthetics and Orthotics and has been for the last 25 years where she specializes in all aspects of prosthetic training including offering concierge services. She frequently reaches out to her professional community to consult and collaborate with other therapists on mutual patients at their facilities to share knowledge and experience of prosthetic training for the benefit of the patients and staff. Suzanne continually seeks to further educate herself through a multitude of professional coursework and resources. She takes a detailed yet very functional approach to her treatment philosophy. Viewing the patient as a whole, she considers all aspects that may impact successful outcomes. She uses a team approach to her therapeutic plan which includes the patient in goal setting as well as effective communication with those involved, striving for excellence in continuity of care.

Tempany’s extensive 16-year career in mental health counseling is marked by her deep commitment and broad expertise. Based in Boca Raton, FL, she is a therapist with a multifaceted skill set, including certifications in EMDR, Sex Therapy, and addiction counseling.   Tempany’s journey in the mental health field is distinguished by her impactful work in an inpatient residential treatment setting, where she counseled individuals on their first steps in recovering from addiction, trauma and sexual concerns. Tempany found her true calling in providing her patients with private counseling as they transitioned back into their normal lives. This experience enriched her understanding of the intricate link between mental health, addiction, and sexual well-being. Today, Tempany continues this vital work in private practice; providing mental health counseling and using her specialized training and experience helping heal individuals struggling with sexual and intimacy challenges, trauma, PTSD and addiction.

She is an expert in functional fitness, cognitive assessment, and cognitive wellness coaching. She is a certified personal trainer with the American Sports and Fitness Association (ASFA) and a licensed sports massage therapist. Tiger is an active member of the Senior Fitness Association and is recognized as a consultant specializing in “Fitness for Active Aging Seniors.”  Tiger’s extensive portfolio provides a unique blend of skills to help individuals go beyond their expectations, enabling them to achieve their wellness goals, while delivering measurable outcomes. Tiger also has specific knowledge in areas of nutritional sciences related to immunity, sleep, digestion, and overall performance. She prides herself in taking a holistic approach to health and mental well-being, along with applying this overall wellness approach to empower clients to reach their goals. Her philosophy is to meet individuals where they are and provide a positive, goal-focused approach to reach their fullest potential.

She works with you to uncover the beliefs, blocks, behaviors, habits, and patterns of thinking that prevent you from living the life you desire. She has the tools to gain deep insight and understanding of the way you think and present in the world. 

Prior to her career as Professional Mindset Coach, Wendy founded and operated the IDEAL School for almost 30 years as Principal/Owner. The IDEAL School was an innovative, mindful private school for students aged 3 to 8th Grade. The school was cutting edge with a curriculum based on the Harvard theory of Multiple Intelligences combined with Growth Mindset and Mindfulness Practices.
